About the Artist
The Southernmost Silverman
is Robert Mathison.  Robert was born in California, and grew up in Oregon.  He traveled the country trying to find meaning and purpose for years until one day he discovered Mehron makeup and a simple noisemaker.  BAM!  He took on the persona of Silverman from there on.

He began around April, 2003 in Tempe, Arizona on Mill Avenue performing for the locals, tourists, and college students.  With about four or five blocks of shops, coffee houses, and night clubs there were always a number of people walking by who would see this odd fellow doing the boogaloo for tips.

In September of 2003 Robert came to Key West and began doing the act on Duval Street.  One of the most popular winter destinations for the eastern states in the winter, Key West became his home.  With three piers Key West has several cruise ships in port weekly, and they come year round.  Tourists visiting the Island often spot this chrome goof ball on Duval street standing still behind an odd looking silver bicycle with a wrench in his hand.  When they throw him a dollar the fun begins!

The Southernmost Silverman begins by making machine like noises and then commences working on his bicycle.  By combining robot like movements with break dancing style moves learned in the eighties, he gives them a performance that often makes them throw him another dollar just to see it again!

Robert brings smiles to the faces of the old and young alike.  He hands out USA made peppermint puffs to everyone, and each one sports an American flag on the wrapper!

With his silver Simple stretch cruiser bike, two foot 'Ape Hanger' handlebars, oil can, rubber chicken, and chrome 7/8 inch wrench the Silverman of Key West gives a zany performance that's sure to bring a smile to your face every time!

The Southernmost Silverman has been seen at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the Decatur Days Festival in Decatur, Illinois, and at various private functions throughout the southeastern United States.  He has been on the cover of more than one newspaper, and even been seen in shows like Wife Swap on TV!  Silverman also once had his photo taken with the Governor of Georgia!

Zany to the core, and eager to make you smile, the Southernmost Silverman is also a regular at the Sunset Celebration here in Key West at Mallory Square.  Every evening a large number of performers arrive at Mallory Square to perform for locals and tourists alike for four hours.  Two hours before and after sunset the Mallory Pier is a festival called Sunset Celebration!  With artists and performers doing what they love to do.

If you're ever in Key West come on down to Duval street, or to the Sunset Celebration and look for the Southernmost Silverman!  Chances are he'll be there surrounded by the young and old alike making noise and robotin' around with people laughing and snapping pictures.  Throw him a dollar and see what happens!
